Welcome to Prism!

Hi! We're excited that you're interested in using Prism to document learning moments. Before you start, please read through these terms carefully. We've tried to keep everything clear and straightforward.

What Prism Is

Prism is a platform that helps educators and parents document, organize, and share learning moments for self-directed learners. You can take photos, add context, and build meaningful portfolios that showcase authentic learning.

Using Prism

By using Prism, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information when creating your account
  • Keep your login credentials secure
  • Only upload content you have the right to share
  • Respect the privacy of other users and learners
  • Follow all applicable laws and regulations
  • Consent to AI-powered analysis of your educational content for Learning Signals generation
  • Allow your content to be processed by third-party AI services (Anthropic Claude) for educational insights

Important Things to Know

  1. Age Requirements

    • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account
    • Parents/guardians must provide consent for learners under 18
    • Only parents or legal guardians may create learner profiles for children under 13
  2. Parental Consent for Children Under 13

    If you are adding a learner under 13 to your account:

    By creating a learner profile for a child under 13, you represent and warrant that:

    • You are the parent or legal guardian of that child
    • You have the authority to consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of their information as described in our Privacy Policy
    • You understand that educators in pods you join will be able to view and create portfolio entries for your child
    • You consent to the storage of your child's photos with our service providers (AWS S3, Imgix)
    • You consent to optional AI analysis of your child's portfolio content by Anthropic Claude (you can disable image analysis in your account settings)
    • You are responsible for choosing what photos and context to share about your child's learning

    Your Ongoing Responsibilities:

    As a parent or legal guardian, you are responsible for:

    • Reviewing your child's portfolio entries and privacy settings
    • Ensuring you have consent from other parents before uploading photos that include their children
    • Keeping your child's information accurate and up-to-date
    • Understanding which pods you've joined and who can view your child's information
    • Managing your child's learner profile, including the option to delete it at any time

    Your Rights:

    You may at any time:

    • Review all information about your child in your account
    • Modify or delete your child's information
    • Delete your child's learner profile completely
    • Control AI image analysis permissions for your child
    • Revoke consent by deleting the learner profile
    • Contact us at privacy@prism.guide with questions about your child's information
  3. Content Ownership

    • You retain ownership of all content you upload
    • You grant us permission to store and display your content within Prism
    • You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to share photos of learners
    • When sharing photos that include children, you must have permission from their parents/guardians
    • You can export or delete your content at any time
  4. Account Types and Responsibilities

    Parent Accounts:

    • Can create and manage learner portfolios for their own children
    • Can upload and manage portfolio content
    • Are responsible for obtaining necessary permissions for learner photos
    • Can join multiple pods for their learners
    • Must provide parental consent when adding learners under 13
    • Control privacy settings and AI analysis permissions for their learners

    Educator Accounts:

    • Can create and manage learning pods
    • Can invite parents and other educators to pods
    • Must respect privacy settings and permissions
    • Are responsible for maintaining appropriate content
    • May create portfolio entries for learners whose parents have joined their pod
    • Must comply with parental privacy preferences and settings

    Learner Portfolios:

    • Are not independent accounts (children cannot log in)
    • Are managed entirely by their parent/guardian
    • Future feature may allow learner logins with appropriate parental controls
  5. Pod Management

    • Pods can have multiple educators and learners
    • Pod owners can set roles and permissions
    • Members must respect pod guidelines
    • Pod content is shared only with authorized members
    • Parents control which pods their learners join
    • Parents can remove their learners from pods at any time
  6. AI-Powered Learning Analysis

    • Prism uses artificial intelligence to generate "Learning Signals" from your portfolio content
    • Your photos, text, and educational context are analyzed by Anthropic Claude AI service
    • Learning Signals help identify educational progress, interests, and developmental patterns
    • AI-generated reports provide insights into learning modes, progress, and suggested activities
    • For children under 13, only database IDs (never names) are included in AI processing
    • You can opt out of image analysis through your account settings
    • AI-generated content is for educational guidance only and should not replace professional assessment
  7. Data Privacy and Third-Party Services

    • We use trusted third-party services to operate Prism (AWS S3, Imgix, Anthropic Claude, Firebase, Resend)
    • These services are prohibited from using your information for purposes other than providing services to Prism
    • Your data is stored on servers in the United States
    • We follow all applicable privacy laws, including COPPA for children under 13

  8. Content Guidelines

    • All content must be appropriate for an educational context
    • No harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content
    • Photos should focus on learning activities
    • Context and tags should be relevant and constructive
    • You must have permission to upload photos that include other people's children
  9. Termination

    • You can delete your account at any time
    • You should export any data you want to keep before deletion
    • Deleting a learner profile will remove all associated portfolio entries and data
    • We may suspend accounts that violate these terms
    • We may remove inappropriate content without notice
  10. Changes to Service

  • We may modify or update Prism's features
  • We'll notify you of significant changes
  • Continued use after changes means you accept them
  • You can export your data if you disagree with changes
  • We will notify you of material changes to how we handle children's information
  1. Limitations of Liability
  • We strive for reliable service but can't guarantee 100% uptime
  • We're not responsible for lost data if you don't back it up
  • We recommend regularly exporting important portfolio data
  • We're not responsible for disputes between users
  • AI-generated Learning Signals and reports are for educational guidance only
  • We cannot guarantee accuracy of AI-generated educational assessments or recommendations
  • You should not rely solely on AI-generated content for educational decisions
  • We are not liable for any decisions made based on AI-generated reports or recommendations
  1. Copyright and Content Rights
  • Don't upload content you don't have rights to
  • Respect other users' content rights
  • Report any copyright violations you notice
  • We'll remove content that violates copyright laws
  • When uploading photos of children, ensure you have permission from their parents/guardians
  1. Dispute Resolution
  • If you have a concern about another user's content or behavior, contact us at help@prism.guide
  • We will investigate reported violations of these Terms of Service
  • We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate our terms

  1. Governing Law
  • These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States
  • Any disputes will be resolved in accordance with U.S. law
  • We comply with all applicable international data protection laws
